MAY 2021 – SELFMADE PROJECT

PAPER RECYCLING EXPERIMENTATION
The paper already used, here obsolete years, is cut into small pieces and then left to soak in water before mixing it. Once the pulp is set I place it in embroidery hoops mounted with a new cloth. To help me disperse the pulp on the hoop, I use a water basin. At last, let it dry until it’s removable from the fabric.

COLORED COMPOSITION AND TRANSLUCENCY
Looking at these experiments in the light, we can see the drawings thanks to thicknesses variations. These patterns highlight the imperfections of handmade work. It brings hidden plasticity that appears and disappears and changes between each sheet. I could continue this work by exploring this idea of translucency. It is possible to compress in a mould with different thicknesses, variations would make patterns appear.

VOLUME EXPERIMENTATION
Then, I tried to create volumes with pulp. By simply working with pulp I managed to obtain approximative volumes. Nevertheless, even if the paste has moulding qualities, you have to choose the right mould. During a test with a metal mould, the paper remained stuck in the bottom despite the release agents applied before.
